From Coping To Thriving

When we have been struggling for a while it is easy to forget how wonderful it feels when everything is going well. We begin to settle for the new normal. However, if that new normal doesn't feel great, it's time to shake it off and start to imagine how good life could be if we changed our focus from Coping to Thriving!

We all know what "coping" feels like. 2020 has been a a crazy year. Every day has offered a fresh dose of change and uncertainty. As my great friend and colleague, Vanda North, likes to say, "It's been a great test of our "bouncebackability!"" Maintaining our resilience has become something for everyone to consider, with a number of rallying calls:

  • Stay Strong – develop your mental toughness.
  • Be Mindful – root yourself in the moment.
  • Decompress – look after yourself, release those endorphins!

However, as 2021 approaches, it's time to switch our mindset. It's time to lift up our heads and scan the horizon. To truly move from coping to thriving.

The Emergence of HOPE

In my latest video, I discuss how we can make this move and empower ourselves to plan for an amazing 2021. In particular, I explore how the simple acronym 'H.O.P.E.' can help us gain a new perspective.

If you enjoyed the video. Please Subscribe to the YouTube channel to tune into my regular updates. Also, ask a question in the Chat if there is a particular topic you would like me to explore.

In the meantime, grab a few moments for yourself. Consider, what are you resisting? Are there areas of your life where you are closing down the opportunity to explore new ideas? Where would you put yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is positively Tigger and 1 is the other side of Eeyore? Capture some notes in your journal, your diary or your phone.

If a little bit of inspiration will help kick-start your journey towards Thriving then who better than Nelson Mandela. This video is a song co written by Russ Ballard, Chris Winter and Nelson Mandela and recorded by Emin, and includes a spoken word vocal by Mandela himself. In the video, Mandela reminds us that sometimes to discover hope, we need to look outside ourselves and refocus on supporting those around us.

"The generosity of the human spirit can overcome all adversity. Through compassion and caring, we can create hope." - Nelson Mandela
